7 Anti-Theft Apps That You Should Install

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

People habitually store important information on their mobile phone. Unauthorized access and theft can be quite disastrous. There are apps that can help to prevent theft from happening. Many Android devices are still not equipped with biometric sensors, so they can be somewhat more vulnerable. Here are apps that you may want to install for your device:

  1. Third Eye: Third Eye will automatically take a picture using the front-facing camera after a few failed attempts in unlocking the phone. The picture can be accessed immediately through the notification tab. The picture will be displayed and also, the time it is taken. The app also informs users whether the unlocking attempt is successful or not.

2.                   CrookCatcher: CrookCatcher sends the photo of the intruder after multiple failed attempts to unlock the device. Unlike Third Eye, this app sends an email notification with attached photo of the thief. If the GPS feature is enabled, the location of unauthorized access will also be recorded.

3.                  Prey Anti-Theft: After installing this app, users will need to register PreyProject.com. The device will be tracked automatically by the system, including its location. So, when the phone is lost or stolen, it will be easier to recover the device. The device can be controlled remotely to take photos, so the thief and the location can be identified. Prey Anti-Theft is available for both iOS and Android.

4.                  Thief Catcher: This app detects any attempt to change SIM card. This is a useful feature if the device is stolen or lost. Each time the device is turned on, an email will be sent to the original owner. It may also record audio and take multiple photo records, to ease the recovery of the device.

5.                  Eradoo: Eradoo is an anti-theft app that works even if the device isn’t connected to the Internet. You can reset the device by sending the appropriate SMS. When the thief puts a new SIM card into the device, the app will send card details to specific phone number.

6.                  Find My Device: It’s a free app for Android device. It allows you to remotely lock the device and change the password. This will prevent the thief from accessing the device further. Alternatively, you can opt to erase data remotely, so the thief won’t be able to access your crucial data. If the device is connected to the Internet and the GPS feature is enabled, the app allows you to track the device. Find My Device is a lightweight app at only 2MB in size.

Lock Watch: It is a good app with proper anti-theft feature. You will be notified when someone tries to access the smartphone using a wrong password. It will capture a photo using the front facing camera. The photo of the person will be sent to your email address. If the phone is connected to the Internet and the GPS feature is enabled, you will know the location of the device.
