Most Useful App of the Week - MedTap - Drug Interaction Checker
Thursday, November 23, 2017
Medicine, like sports, always seems to be wearier of new
technology because it’s less reliable. Most establishments that practice
medicine will rely on the tried and true methods over something new until that
new thing can become as reliable as the old methods. That said, there are some
medical apps that you can get on your smartphone that are worth having. Here is
one of the best medical apps for iPhone and iPad – MedTap!
What is MedTap?
MedTap is a medical reference tool, created especially to
help physicians, medical students, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
This medical app and drug interaction checker is brought to the iOS platform by
AAP, allowing its users to learn more about their meds.
App Features
This incredible and powerful tool includes multiple useful
features that bring trusted drugs information right at your fingertips. With
it, you can search interactions between multiple drugs and find risks of
adverse events and dose adjustments. There are detailed drug monographs included,
along with summary and full information for a drug's indications & dosage,
contraindications, interactions, adverse events, use in special populations (e.g.
pregnancy, pediatrics), pharmacology, pill images, and clinical trial results.
You can easily enter a list of drugs to check interactions that can result in
adverse events or lack of efficacy and identify any pill based on its imprint,
drug name, and other pill's features like shape and color. In addition, the app
offers a disease search to find approved drugs for the selected indication.
Search for interactions between two or more drugs at a time
and find pills by name, ingredient, imprint, shape, or color by downloading MedTap
from the App Store. Note that all data contained in this app is for

judgment or to constitute professional advice for medical diagnosis or
