iPhone Game Review - Sage’s Sky
Monday, September 7, 2015
Painting an
unending variety of scenic skies that play as a backdrop to your adventures,
Sage’s Sky takes launch and flight to a new high. Creator Colton Daily has
masterfully designed a deluge of interesting scapes across which your flier
Sage, one of five amazing birds, soars. Your mission is to avoid obstacles and
collect points to boost your energy.
Available on most
iOS devices, Sage’s Sky brings a unique and playful setting before your eyes
while combining the lure of a launching game with tap to control power. The
game is free to download and will get you hooked before you know it.
To play, you
simply launch Sage from the tree upon which he sits. As he flies, use taps in
strategic spots to ensure he misses what he need to avoid, and hits the items
he needs to get absorb energy. Taps can be made anywhere on the screen and forces
Sage to flap his wings. This allows him to avoid things like sharp deadly
spikes, deadly bugs and any colossal catapults that may be flung his way.
Should be fail to avoid the bad things, he will fall from the sky and your play
session will end.
Good things to try
and aim for include the good bugs - and there are a few - power-ups, and coins.
As you hit each and every one, you will see Sage collect strength and
eventually, if you have enough coins collected, he will transform before your
eyes into a stronger flying machine.
The only downside
to this game is that I had to do some online digging to figure out just how to
play it. I have seen other game apps give a short demo or tutorial on how to
play and what to expect, which would be nice in this case, because when I first
started playing, I sat there tapping away only to watch wistfully as my Sage
fell to the ground from the tree upon which he was perched. He did not even
make it past the branches. That may just be me, but then again, you never know.
Most players will probably know what to do right from the starting gate, given
the fact that it’s a launching game.
Once you get the
hang of it, Sage’s Sky becomes dangerously addicting because you just can’t get
enough of it. You will keep launching to kingdom come finding ways to hit every
single coin and power-up you can find. You will also become supremely adept at
avoiding the bad bugs and flying objects hurled your way. The best part is the
new backdrops against which you set Sage sailing across. Even better is
watching your little birdie grow in to a strong flier he was meant to become.
