Monday, January 6, 2014
The South Korean company announced that the upcoming models of the new-generation Genesis
sedan will be able to interact with the driver through wearable technology via
an in-built application called Blue Link.
Hyundai engineers have teamed up with
Google to make Google Glass, the the
wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display, to interact with the
car’s Blue Link infotainment system.
"We see wearables as a technology trend, expanding from
fitness and health monitoring to broader applications. As a leader in connected car technology, we're
always exploring new ways to use technology to enhance the ownership experience
for our customers. Wearables are a great way to extend the experience outside
of the vehicle by leveraging these small screens to quickly access remote
features and deliver timely vehicle information," says Barry Ratzlaff, executive director
customer connect and service business development for Hyundai Motor America.
This platform will enable drivers:
- to access service information
- to start their car using the eyepiece
- push notifications for maintenance reminders- remote locking and unlocking
- vehicle locating assistance.
Users will also be able to upload points of interest from
Google Glass into the car's navigation system. "In 2013, we saw millions of commands sent to Hyundai
vehicles from our Blue Link mobile application," Ratzlaff continued.
"As new screens emerge, we see a real opportunity to expand our app
strategy to provide added convenience for our owners."
