App of the day – Lockwatch will take photo of anybody that will try to unlock your Android smartphone
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Lockwatch is relatively new free Android app which will
protect your smartphone from theft. If anybody tries to unlock your phone and
miss the unlock scheme this app will automatically take a photo with the front
camera and it will send it to you on your email along with the GPS location of
the phone. The sound that the phone usually makes when we take a photo is
disabled, so the person who stole the phone will not know that he is
photographed.
You don’t need any additional setups to use this app, you’ll
need to set up only an email address, to which the information will be send.
Also, you’ll need to setup the number of unsuccessful tries, after which the
app will take the photo and send the information on your email. The app works
on Android 4.0.3 and higher, on phones that have front facing cameras.
The Australian developers came to this idea after the phone
of one of their friends got stolen. One of
the developers also stated for Lifehacker: “I thought it would be a great idea to write an app that could immediately take a photo of any person who tried to unlock your phone and also send an image of their location to the owner’s email address. I spent one month writing it in the evenings after my day job.”
Simple and useful, Lockwatch has over 5k downloads and 4.6 rating for only one day on Google Play.
