Sunday, February 24, 2013

We made a list of the best book readers for Android. Check out the specs and download links of 5 best free Android e-book readers.

Kobo

Kobo’s main menu is divided in 5 simple features. Home is where your recent activity, library, reading life and categories are located. Library is where all of your downloaded books are located, but also you can view books recommended for you. Discover is where you can find books divided by certain categories and this is the place in which you will find free e-books in the category “Top Free eBooks”. Browse is also feature in which there are tons of categories (different from Discover) in which you can find books about History, Home & Garden or Science and Nature. Reading Life  is interesting feature in which there is statistic about your total read time, books that you read at the moment, pages turned and how many books have you read.

We didn’t had any issues or found any important bags on this app. App offers change of font type and size. Also cool feature is that you can select certain quote from a book and share it on Facebook or Twitter.

Size on your smartphone/tablet: 49.15 MB
Google Play Rating: 4.2.

Aldiko Book Reader

Aldiko Book Reader is more a simple Android e-book reader than a place for searching books. Actually if you have tons of e-books and you just want simple app with awesome UI, then Aldiko is the reader for you. Although the app has a store in which you can buy books it’s not so good organized like on the other e-book readers. They offer books from only 5 stores, but also there are numerous books on the main slider through which you can easily browse with a simple tap.

App is great for epub files, although we had some problems when zooming PDF files. But there are some other good PDF readers on Android. We reviewed Foxit Reader, but there is the Acrobat Reader App also published from Adobe itself.

Size on your smartphone/tablet: 22.89 MB.
Google Play Rating: 4.3

Cool Reader

Simple and unique, Cool Reader supports epub (non-DRM), fb2, doc, txt, rtf, html, chm, tcr, pdb, prc, mobi (non-DRM), pml formats. Again this is a reader if you already have e-books on your smartphone and tablet, although you can easily generate online book catalogs. The Home screen of the app is neatly divided in 4 categories like Recent Books, Browse the file system (with which you can easily browse through your phone and SD card), Browse the Library (in which your books are divided by Authors, Titles Series, By Rating, To Read, Reading and Finished) and Online Catalogs (feature to easily create online catalogs).

Cool Reader supports Chinese, Japanese, Korean languages. It’s obvious that developers focused on UI because it’s clean and simple. We loved it.

Size on your smartphone/tablet: 9.05 MB
Google Play Rating: 4.7.

Moon+ Reader

Maybe the best feature of Moon+ Reader, or feature that we liked the most, is that is synced with “Project Gutenberg” in which you can find many free e-books. App is localized in over 40 languages, so you can easily read your favorite books from your country. Like all great Android e-readers, Moon + Reader has a option for adjusting brightness, choosing different themes, font sizes etc, actually there are .

You can follow your statistics about how many books you have, how many of them you’ve read, Reading hours, Reading time of a certain book. Free version don’t support PDF files.

Size on your smartphone/tablet: 13.52 MB.
Google Play Rating: 4.5

Kindle for Android

E-reader and shopper in one, Kindle is synced with Amazon, so you can find more than 1.5 titles, which, as expected, are divided in various categories and you can search through them for certain keywords. Also, you can buy magazines and newspapers in special Kindle editions. The app has the standard customization features like: font size, screen brightness, background color, and orientation (portrait or landscape). Through this app you can easily sync your smartphone or tablet with other devices like PC, Mac, Blackberry, iPhone and of course any of the Kindle devices. So you can start reading the book on your Android tablet, and continue reading on your lap top.

Size on your smartphone/tablet: 29.74 MB.
Google Play Rating: 4.2.
