Flipboard vs. Pulse
Wednesday, April 10, 2013
In this app battle we decided to oppose two great news
reader apps, Flipboard and Pulse. The best free news reader apps for sure.
Flipboard
EDIT: Since the publishing of this article, Pulse was acquired by the business social media giant LinkedIn for $90 million.
Flipboard is a 2 year old social network aggregation application
which was first presented on App Store. But from May, 2012 was made available
to Android smartphones through Google Play. From December, 2012 is available to
Android tablets also.
With Flipboard you can simply chose you interests and easily
flip through them. Some websites have Flipboard specialized content, so for
example if you open content from LA Times, you don’t scroll through it, you
just flip the paragraphs of that post. This is a great feature. You can connect
via Facebook or Twitter and share any content you find here.
Our experience with Flipboard: Fast, easy and gives you
great control over your interests. Nice and interesting design.
Pulse News
Pulse News is a 3 year old application which displays news a
little different from Flipboard. If you choose certain interest, for example
Technology, Pulse will give you latest links from the big tech websites like
Gizmodo, TechCrunch etc. We liked this very much! Also you can save content and
view it later with Instapaper, Read it Later and Evernote. Apps that we’re going to review in future.
You can go through the news just taping to the left or
right, and if you choose certain post, for example from TechCrunch, with just
taps to left, or right, you’re going to view the latest content from TechCrunch.
Flipboard doesn’t have this feature.
Our experience with Pulse: Fast, easy, fun and has some great
features that we really liked.
Our verdict – Pulse News
We felt like we had more control over what we want using
Pulse. We liked the Pulse platform more, as it shows more articles from a
certain website, and shows you multiple sites with authority. It looked certainly
more organized. At the end of the day, we enjoyed Pulse more.
